Paul Pillar

Former CIA intelligence analyst and terrorism expert, Paul Pillar, tells us about how in his experience at the CIA during the lead up to the Iraq War, the intelligence community was completely ignored.

Dr. Paul Pillar is a leading expert on intelligence and counterterrorism having spent twenty-eight years serving in a number of managerial and analytic positions in the intelligence community, including National Intelligence Officer for the Near East and South Asia.  He has also been Executive Assistant to CIA’s Deputy Director for Intelligence and Executive Assistant to Director of Central Intelligence, William Webster, who was head of the CIA under Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.  Dr. Pillar is the author of the books Intelligence and US Foreign Policy and Terrorism and US Foreign PolicyHis latest article in The National Interest is entitled “The Bias For Action In US Foreign Policy.” He currently teaches at Georgetown University in the Security Studies Program.
