Ralph welcomes the head of testing for Consumer Reports, Liam McCormack, who gives us a tour of the marketplace for many of the products you buy from automobiles to computers to auto insurance to appliances to laundry detergent and much, much more.

Liam McCormack  is Vice President of Research, Testing and Insights at Consumer Reports, an independent, nonprofit organization that works with consumers to champion the principles of choice and voice, safety, privacy, sustainability, transparency, and value in the marketplace. Mr. McCormack is responsible for all of Consumer Report’s unique testing and research that underpins much of its content and policy work, including the highly regarded product and service ratings and reviews.

“There is one food label that kind of makes us really angry, which is when you say that something is labeled as being ‘natural.’  So, you might say, ‘Natural. That sounds good.’ But legally speaking it has absolutely no meaning whatsoever.  It means nothing about whether it’s organic or whether it’s free of genetically modified ingredients.  It actually has no meaning in law whatsoever.” Liam McCormack, Head of Testing at Consumer Reports

Is Consumer Checkbook an efficacious publication or does it have compromised, dirty hands?

Great show about Consumer Reports. Thank you. I just became a subscriber as a result of this interview. Have you ever heard of Dave Gardner with GrowthBusters.org? You may or may not agree with his ideas, but I think he would be a great person for Ralph Nader to interview.
Thanks for all you are doing to get out the information your show reveals,
    Tim Griffin

Hi MR.Ralph Nader. I love your radio show. I listen to it on KPFK. I will subscribe to consumer report soon. At the end of your show you mentioned the name Tim Foust ( if I spell his name correctly). The health guy. My question:
My friends mother passed away last year at the mission hospital in Mission Viejo Ca. Her daughter is very angry and very sad that the doctors didn’t do justice to her mom by doing repeated unnecessary surgeries. Such as putting hole in the bottom of her neck to have her to breath better. She had multiple surgery on her lungs. At the end after all the surgeries she was on life support and they had to disconnect her from it. Now her daughter is so angry and mad and wants some justice to be done and find out if the doctors did the right steps or not. Will you please have any suggestions in what steps we need to take in order to bring some peace of mind to her daughter. Thank you.

Speaking of food suppliments, I wish you would present a feature about that industry. Expose why, for example, food sumpliments, which are practically food, albeit largely fractious food, have a sales tax imposed on them whilst prescription drugs skate tax free.

A healthy life would be much harder for me sans my elixers, despite the fact that my holistic regime is nearly airtight. Health for person and planet is aurguably the last frontier, though surrounding health is consciousness.

    Love you guys.

Howdy just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The words in your post
seem to be running off the screen in Firefox.
I’m not sure if this is a format issue or something to do with internet browser compatibility but I figured I’d
post to let you know. The layout look great
though! Hope you get the problem solved soon. Cheers

  7. Definitely believe that which you stated. Your favorite justification appeared to be on the web the simplest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I certainly get irked while people think about worries that they plainly do not know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and also defined out the whole thing without having side-effects , people can take a signal. Will likely be back to get more. Thanks
