Sarah van Gelder is a founder of a new nonprofit start-up, PeoplesHub, which will be offering online training to local groups around the country who want to make change where they live. Sarah is also YES! Magazine Co-founder and columnist, a public speaker, and the author of a new book, The Revolution Where You Live: Stories from a 12,000 Mile Journey Through a New America, which is about Sarah’s solo road trip around the United States, seeking out the people who are making change happen.
Mark Pertschuk is the former President & Executive Director of Americans for Nonsmokers’ Rights. And in 1995, he co-founded Californians for Responsible Gun Laws to mobilize grassroots support for 40 local gun control ordinances and three statewide gun laws, which is why California has the strongest gun laws in the nation. His latest venture is as the director of Grassroots Change, an organization that connects advocates with the training and tools they need to build and sustain grassroots movements.

Initiating a new group is no small feat. Would be helpful to list existing.
I am a Retired RN living in Camas, Washington State and we just did a fabulous win against Big Oil Money! We have elected Don Orange for Port of Vancouver, WA Commissioner! Todays local paper , The Columbian says Orange is “all but assured of victory” Orange has 64% of the ballots and Greene ( I called him green for money) has only 36%. 11,500 ballots are yet to be counted but many are not in districts who can vote on Port Commissioner. Don Orange is against the largest Oil Terminal right there in Vancouver, WA at the Port! Don will now make the second commissioner who is against the Giant, dangerous Oil export Terminal and we are planning follow-ups, to be sure they do stop polluters. I learned at the election night Party that I am well known as a speaker against Dirty Coal and Oil Trains. So, I am an accidental environmental activist. Washington Conservation Voters taught us to use Call Fire to call people. I called about 1,000 people and door knocked for 4 days with many, many others!!! My Dad was Syrian American and loved Ralph Nader so much. Next, I’ll work for local trusted Democrats whom I trust to do what is right. This Port Commissioner race will cure some depression for voters! Thanks!
