Beyond Nuclear and the Bright Future of Solar

Ralph talks to Paul Gunter of Beyond Nuclear about all the lies the nuclear industry tells to stay afloat; and solar expert Scott Sklar joins us to talk about how solar energy is already creating more jobs than nuclear and fossil fuels combined.

“The nuclear industry and its champions like to refer to it as the nuclear energy ‘cycle’ but in fact it is a ‘chain’ that binds our future generations to nuclear weapons and nuclear waste.”
“Nuclear power plants, while they don’t have smoke stacks, they are emitting a whole host of – up to 124 different – radioactive isotopes on a routine level.”

Paul Gunter of Beyond Nuclear

Paul Gunter is an environmental activist and energy policy analyst, who has been an ardent critic of atomic power development for more than 40 years.   In 1976 Mr. Gunter helped launch the anti-nuclear movement as cofounder of the Clamshell Alliance, which through non‐violent direct action fought the construction of New Hampshire’s Seabrook nuclear power plant.  Today, he is the director and lead spokesperson in nuclear reactor hazards and security concerns for the group Beyond Nuclear, which aims to educate and activate the public about the connections between nuclear power and nuclear weapons and the need to abandon both to safeguard our future.

Scott Sklar is an internationally recognized solar energy leader. He served as Executive Director of the Solar Energy Industries Association, as Political Director of The Solar Lobby, and in the mid 1970s co-founded the Congressional Solar Caucus.  He also co-authored the Consumer Guide to Solar Energy.  Currently, Mr. Sklar leads his own clean energy technology optimization and strategic policy firm, The Stella Group, Ltd. and also designed and built his own zero-energy home and office, which incorporates an array of solar energy technologies.
